It pissed me off when I was typing something in a low-light situation, and took 15 seconds to get a sip of water or try to think what I was typing, looking something up, etc and NO DAMNED lights on my keyboard. Unlike my older Dell, there was NO way to make the light stay on. They\’d come back on only I would either touch a key or \”hover\” my hand over the middle of the alphabet part of the keyboard. NOTHING that I did, though, would keep the lights on any longer. Long-story-short, after I had the laptop for a few days, I had one BIG complaint and nothing I could do would fix it: the 5558\’s keyboard light kept turning off after 10 sec AND there are only a couple brightness levels and they\’re controlled with the F10 key and you go from Off, to bright, to low, to Off, etc. I bought it over a year ago and I was used to the backlit keyboard on my previous Dell, where you could turn it on, and change it to different levels of brightness. Hope this helped you a bit! Let me know if you have any questions.I have had my Inspiron 5558 signature edition. But in truth, NumLock needs to be ON for you to unlock your numeric pad on laptop. This name, in a way, suggests that if the key is ON then the NumPad is Locked and thus can not be used. Name of the NumLock key has always confused me. When you switch on NumLock – you should use these keys along with ALT to do the trick. In such cases, you will find extra numbers written on some of the keys (usually in the same color as that of the Fn key). In some laptops, functionality of numpad keys is given to other keys than the regular number keys. When this key is in ON mode, the indicator glows. All laptops have an LED indicator that signals status of NumLock key.

To toggle the status of NumLock in laptops, you usually need to press NumLock key along with the Function (Fn) key. NumLock in off mode makes all keys to act as regular keys (that is, pressing 1 will print 1)īut if you switch on NumLock then the same keys will function as the keys of Num Pad in a desktop keyboard. The “NumLock” or “NumLK” key is used to activate or deactivate these functions. Num Pad functions in a laptop keyboard are built in the regular keys. How to Activate and Use Numeric Pad in Laptops?
